Windows 7 Beta on Lenovo X61 Tablet

These are my first thoughts of Windows 7 Beta on my Lenovo X61 Tablet

  • Install was great. Was able to get online right away with installed drivers.
  • It seams faster than the preloaded Vista Business that I had.
  • Biometric scanner was not installed but Upek has a driver for Windows 7.
  • Touch screen and pen not working yet.
  • Have to run some sites in "Compatibility Mode" in IE8. Mostly, they show up with real small font that the zoom doesn't help or have some overlap of controls.
  • Bottom task bar is nicer with more animation.
  • The new "Show Desktop" button on the right of the task bar doesn't make much sense.
  • No "Quick Launch"? The new "Pin to Taskbar" feature seams to have replaced the Quick Launch.

More to come with pictures as I continue to test.

Hi. I've got my pen working properly on X61 tablet. The touchscreen won't work, though. I installed Lenovo's Multitouch-Driver for Vista32 so far. Would I have to expect a "touchscreen-entry" in the control panel? There is none... (7762-Y2R)

Thanks Patrick, I am downloading it now, by the way did you have to install it as the Administrator???

Was there anything else you had to do to get the pen working beyond simply installing the multitouch driver? I did it, have restarted a couple of times, and still get no response. There's still a couple of unrecognized hardware devices in the device manager, and I'm guessing one is the touchscreen.

I have the same Problem with the build 7100 of Windows 7 - no Pen enabled Display. Find anyone a solution?

Base functionality works on the x61 with RTM, including pen functions and fingerprint driver. A few improved drivers will be available when you run windows update including power management and video. Lenovo's Vista drivers will be required if you want on screen display, tablet menu, auto screen rotation. The Lenovo update utility comes up with not fully supported in Windows 7. All in all works fine with minimal work.
